Jerry Bergosh review about company Shaw Roofing
So it was 32 years ago that I last replaced the roof on my house and I decided to NOT wait until I had a roof leak to do it. The way I proceeded was to ask friends and colleagues who recently had their roof replaced for referrals. (No sense wasting time calling for estimates from companies that advertise on TV if no one I know has used them). I narrowed it down to three companies that got positive comments and asked for estimates. Interestingly, Shaw Roofing's name came up more than once from different people whose opinions I respect. I went thru meeting with the estimators, hearing their sales pitches and putting the bids side-by-side. One was clearly a low-ball estimate that was so much below the other two that it made me uncomfortable. I figured given the importance of a roof and the fact I am planning on living here another 30 years, paying more for quality was a worth-while investment. As a side-note, I watched my office manager go through getting a new roof two years ago with a company I will not name and her experience was hellish. I learned some critical things to avoid when it came time for my re-roofing. Here is my findings and why I picked Shaw Roofing: - the crews they use had been with them for years; that told me they treat their workers fairly and they truly seemed happy (this is hot, hard work and they were impressive) - I asked if I should upgrade my single pick and rather than upselling me, they asked good questions about how long I would live in the house, what I wanted in the roof 'look', etc. Abe the owner recommended I stick with their basic recommendation (which was a lot less $$). I appreciated that honesty. - After they stripped off the old shingles, we discovered I did not have plywood underneath - and that was an unexpected surprise and expense. But Jay my estimator called, told me the bad news and here is the silver lining - they included up-front in the quote the square foot cost IF replacement was necessary. I looked at the other two companies bids and determined they would have added a lot more than Shaw! In summary, my experience with Shaw was great in every respect. They were beyond professional, their crews did a fantastic job keeping my place clean during the removal process (I have three dogs and don't need old roofing nails laying about) and at the completion. They even came back to do a walk around with me and make sure I was satisfied. The bottom-line for me was quality of work, quality of their installers and the quality of the roofing product they use. The fact that you get to talk directly to the owner was also a plus and ease of communication with Jay the estimator made it even better. I could have gotten the roof replaced by a cheaper bid but when I factor in how smoothly it went and how good the clean-up was, Shaw was worth every penny. Jerry
