Be very clear that you need an estimate or if you want actual service (at T&M rate) when scheduling. Called for a roof replacement estimate for a leaky roof and they sent two guys out and later invoiced for a $150 service call. At no point did anyone mention there would be a charge. Why would there be for a free estimate?? Every single contractor I've ever worked with does an evaluation with sales people before sending out workers. Fick has never worked on this house before but did some substantial work previously for us at our primary residence and all went fine. They made no repairs in the 15-20 minutes they were there, and didn't even take a tool up with them. They just took measurements and photos to price up a new roof. They said a salesperson may call but probably not since they had everything needed for a new roof estimate plus chimney work. I just called a second time and they are insisting it was a service call and to call back if I want an estimate. At no point was I informed this was anything other than an estimate! After a fair amount of back and forth, they eventually called to say they were waiving the fee. Glad to hear. Be sure to be clear as to what you want when calling for an appointment and absolutely say the word “estimate”.
