Storm Guard Review In short, Storm Guard got 80% of their money in early June 2018, and months later abandoned the job leaving me with the mess they left behind and the burden of finding workmen (roofer and carpenter) to finish the job as the snow fell in November. I hired Storm Guard on November 16, 2017, to primarily replace the flat rubber roof (2100 sq. ft) on our three story Victorian mansard, to remove and replace rotted soffit and fascia and to repair and add new downspouts and gutters. John Merna, their salesman, told me that once worked started, the entire job would be completed in 2-3 weeks. When they did not start the work in the fall of 2017, I renewed our contract on April 13, 2018. Actual work (by subcontractors) began on May 29 and continued through June 8, minus rain days. After the rubber flat roof was laid, all work then ceased! Clapboards that had to be removed weren’t replaced. New and larger drain holes weren’t made and downspouts remained detached. Slate tiles from the mansard were, and remained piled atop the 3d floor roof into November. Flashing and edging remained unfinished. Notwithstanding repeated phone calls, text messages and emails, most often without any response, a bit more work (replaced skylight) was done on September 7-8. After another hiatus and several more calls, texts and emails (almost too numerous to count) more work was done on in early October. Even though I offered a 10% bonus if the job were completed by the end of October, Storm Guard did not respond. Only after several complaints and several inches of rain, did someone come to attach the downspouts on November 11. However, a significant part of the job remained undone including replacing clapboards, slate tiles, copper flashing, repairing a gutter and doing the carpentry work to replace the soffit and fascia which was the original reason for my contacting Storm Guard. After seven months and the season’s first significant snowfall, Storm Guard abandoned the job, leaving behind roofing and building materials scattered in the driveway, on a second floor porch and loose tiles and on the third floor roof. And I had to pay the price of finding tradesmen to come in and clean up the mess they left behind. In sum, I would strongly advise not hiring this company. The project manager and owner, Elvis Plokhooy, ostensibly new to this trade, is wholly disingenuous and unreliable. And after the salesman (John Merna) gets your signature on that contract, don’t expect that he will every respond to any further calls. Carlo O. PS. The roofers arrived on time, replaced the roof in one day, replaced the gutters the next day, and cleaned up the site. I have had compliments about what a beautiful job they did. I would recommend Storm Guard.
I used Storm Guard twice this year. After they put a roof on my house I used them to put a roof on my parents house. Joel Trudel was excellent to work with. He answered all my questions and provided me with a very competitive price. Elvis Plokhooy ran both jobs on site for Storm Guard. He communicates well. One job we dealt with weather issues and Elvis remained proactive through the entire job. I was very happy with the job they did. When they were done I could not find one scrap or nail in my yard. They protected all my flower beds and shrubs. Both jobs were done quickly and professionally.
I'm utterly disappointed. The project manager was very helpful at the beginning but stopped responding to phone calls, texts, and emails after the payment was made. The job was not complete. They need to come back to replace a few shingles that had screw holes in them, but they kept say they're too busy. I've called them every week for about a month. The office personnel is very unprofessional and unhelpful in resolving the issue. They don't care about leaving holes in your roof for water to leak through causing molds and damages to your house and health risks to your family. They're terrible in cleaning up. I'm still picking nails around the house. I had to remove 2 nails from 2 of my tires. I will be contacting their corporate office in Texas to escalate.
Storm Guard was very professional have to thank Elvis the Supervisor on site who kept us updated through the whole process as for the Salesman John was easy to speak to and answering all questions ask of him no BS like other Companies Thanks
