Steve with Balking roofing is on-time, extremely knowledgeable and candid with what a roof with different shingles and treatments like slate will cost. I had wanted to do a roof at my Asheville with composite material made to look like slate. Steve gave it to me straight, looking at my selection and informing me it would cost 40-50k. not happening. My house is small but has a difficult roof that Steve said will be, labor intensive with steeples and needs 20-25 squares of installation. He gave me a fair estimate for arch shingles. Balken comes highly recommended by a trusted friend in the home construction business. Thank you Steve for your honesty and Balken's solid reputation as a professionally-run family business, I plan to use use over a chain company or one with a lesser reputation in town.

As a chimney service contractor my company has seen many different roofing company's work. The majority of which are bad to at least questionable in many aspects such as chimney flashing and noticeable problems in valleys. Balken work is always spot on perfect . The company provided a good analysis of leak problems, and scheduled a repair, which was well done. I still had moisture/leak issues. Called in another firm with thermal imaging, who verified that Balken's work had been done properly, but that I still had some other issues. I called Balken, who promised to come back out, but never did call back to arrange the appointment. I contracted another company to replace problem area adding snow and ice shield, solving the problem, it seems. Disappointed in Balken's follow-through.
