We made the mistake of hiring Central Contracting to put a new EPDM roof on our house. The Central workers assigned to complete our roof were not the ones we discussed the job with initially and apparently they were not trained on the proper way to install EPDM. These workers made multiple mistakes on our roof (mistakes that we later verified when the EPDM manufacturer sent a representative onto our roof). The biggest mistake made by Central was how they “glued” approximately 32 feet of roofing to the outside of multiple skylights rather than correctly extending the roofing material up and under the skylights’ flashing. During the first rainstorm we had water pouring through our 2nd floor ceiling down onto our wooden floors, where it ran both through the first floor ceiling and down our stairs to the first floor where the water soaked through the floor ultimately ending up in the basement. We received damages to furniture, carpet, electronics, drywall, etc. Central did not argue that its mistakes caused the flooding – we were in agreement on that fact. What we couldn’t agree on was how much the damages would cost to repair. Despite many conversations and arguments over many months, Central refused to turn the claim over to its insurance company and it refused what we felt were reasonable settlement offers. Ultimately, after a year of fighting, it required binding arbitration so we could settle our differences and part ways. Our advice to you is to be very careful if considering Central because if they make a mistake and something goes wrong they may not stand behind their work – just like happened to us.
