I have done business with this company for 20 years and until recently was very happy with their work. They replaced our entire flat roof a number of years ago and then promptly repaired any leaks, always with the claim that they took care of their own work. The cost was usually about $100/ repair. We have paid every bill promptly. Recently, however, matters have changed. We had a small leak and I had to call multiple times to get them to come out. They repaired the leak and we paid them. A few weeks later the spot still leaked. We called again multiple times before someone came out. They repaired the leak and we paid them again, $250 this time. We paid immediately. Still the leak continued and finally after multiple calls they came out again. They worked for 1/2 hr. repairing the leak, and sent us a new bill for $425. As a result of their previous failures, there had also been further damage to the area under the roof that was going to cost us $240 to have repaired. When we bulked at paying for a third time, the owner accused us of trying to get something for free. When I sent him the list of all the calls we had made to try to get service with dates, etc., he didn't bother to check his own records. I'm afraid that this is a company on its last legs that instead of standing by their work and admitting mistakes tries to overcharge customers to make ends meet. When I suggested to the owner that taking care of their work would be a better business practice he accused me of simply wanting something for free, apparently not bothering to check our long standing payment record. His email was exactly the wrong reaction to a customer's complaint for someone who wants to run a successful business. Until his last email I was happy to just pay the bill, not do business with them again, and let the matter drop but it seems to me that he went beyond the pale and that other potential customers needed to know about this. It is sad to see a once reputable company go down the tubes and I am sorry for many of the very nice employees I have gotten to know over the years, but I won't be doing business with the company again and would caution anyone else who is considering using them in the future. The owner as his response indicates doesn't bother to do the research he would need to find out what is actually happening but simply writes anything he can think of keep his business going. As to never writing good reviews, I do not write good or bad reviews unless something is really bad. and this is a case in point.
Durham roofing replaced the old half of my roof a year ago. When I had a leak this year in the valley between the old and new section I called them to come fix it. They came and said it was a ripped shingle. I paid them. That was not the leak. It took three more visits over two months before they found a hole the size of a quarter in the valley where I told them the water was pouring in. They charged me for all those visits even though I had already paid them for the first visit which did not fix the problem. I have had to replace five ceilings because it took them so long to find the hole in the flashing beside the section of new roof they replaced. They keep charging me for not fixing the original problem. One experienced roofer eventually found the hole and fixed it but I should not have to pay for the inexperienced people who did not know what they were doing. They may have been good roofers long ago, but now they don't have people with the right skills. I would never hire them. Response to the owner: If you would like to discuss why I should pay you twice for one repair I would consider amending my review, but as long as you think it is good business practice to send out people who don't do the job and call it done I will continue to let everyone know about that practice. I do good upkeep on my house and never had a leak in my roof before. I proactivley had it replaced before it wore out. My issue is that I called you all to fix a leak and it took four visits and you want me to pay for visits where you did not fix anything. and since it took you four visits over two months the leak caused major problems inside my house. if you don't want me to continue writing about you here, and on every other review site you should call me to discuss the issue.
