Used this Company to carry out some remedial work on the back wall of our house. They came round to quote when they said they would and I received the quote promptly afterwards. They did a really good job and kept me fully updated with what they were doing at all times. They kept the disruption and dirt to a minimum, even hovering and washing the floor afterwards! We also asked them to replace some skirting boards while they were at our house. This wasn't a problem for them and again I was happy with the work carried out. I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again and I highly recommend them.
Hardie's have just finished some alterations to our 200-year old house in Edinburgh, which involved making a new opening in 2-foot thick stone walls, installing new doors and windows, and much ancillary and finishing work. This was all done extremely efficiently, and in a way that kept the inevitable dirt and disruption to a minimum. What we appreciated most of all was the courtesy and friendliness of both management and tradesmen, who kept us fully informed at all times and showed great flexibility and willingness to accommodate to our opinions about various details. Highly recommended.
I contacted this company last week asking them to get in touch with a view to obtaining an estimate for a kitchen fitting. As yet no one has emailed or phoned me back even although it is Wednesday evening of the next week. It seems this company are complete time wasters and from what some other reviewers have stated, are only interested if they can charge premium prices for jobs done under insurance claims!
We engaged Hardies in February 2018 to work on our flat, which forms part of a tenement block in Bellevue on the edge of New Town. They were faced with the difficult job of making good a small loft above the kitchen which was not properly isolated from the flat above. (Overhead, you could see the floorboards of the property upstairs!) Working in such an inaccessible location – site of an old water tank – they not only gave the space the walls and ceiling that it lacked but made it into a useful storage area. They also vented the (internal) kitchen by building a duct for the cooker hood which they took above the kitchen ceiling, down the inside of an internal wall and under a bedroom floor, so that all you now see is the cooker hood itself. The work was done quickly and the disruption was minimal. We were very impressed by current director David Hardie and his team, who were all lovely people to deal with. On site they think on their feet, doing not what’s easiest for them but what will deliver the best result for the property. We subsequently had them do some electrical jobs, point the stonework around five large sash windows, free the sashes themselves (which had been painted up in the past), rehang the (huge) front door which was sticking and install a new threshold under it. When we first realised that all this work needed doing, we set out to identify a firm that knew old properties like ours, and in Hardies we most definitely found the kind of company we were looking for. Recommended wholeheartedly.
DO NOT USE!!! We contracted Hardie and Sons to install windows, replace the frame, skirting, plaster etc to our property. We were given a reasonable quote and had been recommended by a friend who had a small piece of work done. We were told roughly when the work would be done. Unbeknownst to us, part of the work (the windows which was the main job) was contracted out to another builder. This was not communicated as since our initial phone calls - John had started dialling my number incorrectly. This meant any texts/calls (if the existed at all) never reached me. He had my husbands number - but never tried it. Sensing a complete breakdown of communication I would call the office, leave messages, but never heard back. Until finally I had a date for the window fitting (by the other contractor - I still did not know at this point) as I caught John by chance on the phone in the office. We never saw John again, we never saw anyone from Hardies again. We were never consulted on how we wanted things to look in terms of the interior window sills and surrounds - and it was all very as hoc. The windows had been ordered and made to measure so there was no way out for us at that point. So, we let them do the windows but we cancelled the interior repairs and went elsewhere. Best decision. Now, 1 year later. We have noticed a damp patch appear on the plaster below the downstairs window (they were meant to treat the damp) and also a damp patch above the upstairs window. We reached outside and felt above the window and discovered a large gap above the window, we were able to touch the top of the frame. I called Hardies and told them of this. I was told they were contacting the contractor to fix this. I called twice again over the next 3 weeks. Nothing. I then had to get quite angry with Graeme who has said he will “have a look” 2 weeks from now. No apology, no sense of urgency. They have not shown any care. Aside from my home now being a source of stress, I am so upset at the lack of human decency!!! We are a young family in our first home with a 4 month old baby, they know this and are still refusing to acknowledge any wrong doing. Anyway, my advice - steer clear.
