PLEASE BEWARE: My mother is an immigrant from Macedonia and her language barrier is apparent. Because of this, I noticed that sales companies do their ultimate to prey on her because of her inability to understand that scams do happen in Toronto and that these companies are not part of the govenrnment. Recently, we had MGA home services that install appliances such as water filters and air filtration supplies call my mom and claim that they needed to inspect the condition of the furnace. My mom assumed that it was a company that she signed a contract with for her furnace rental (previous scam all-together), and allowed them into her home to check on the condition. So a sales person arrives at our door and proceeds straight to other parts of the house that are not needed to be checked upon. He tells my mom that he could upgrade the air filter supply and water filter for FREE. Yes my mom is that naive, but she assumed it was the previous company giving her an upgrade. So she signed the contract and two months later the bill comes in the mail and we see she is getting charged for those installations. This sales person changes his number and disapears from our contact. Contacting the company named "MGA Homes Services" proves very unsuccessful since they argue that no matter what was said in person does not matter since it was not written. This sales person used clear manipulation knowing that my mother could not read the contract and would tell her all these upgrades she would get in person. So now my mom is stuck paying an extra $130 a month on her low income salary, when she expected to be paying less (not to mention free upgrades). This is an obvious scam that seems to be targeted specifically to immigrants that are not familiar with the news and how the system works. It really is a shame that these door to door salesman have not become illegal in Canada yet.
